Lymphstar Pro Lymphatic Drainage Therapy & Cygnus Foot Bath Detoxification Therapy

The Lymphstar Pro is a vibrational energy technology.  As such it emits “information” to the body via harmonics of sound and frequencies of light to the energy field of the cell.  It produces this information through the vehicle of “noble gas ionization”.  There is a long tradition of research into the energetic effects of these noble gases.  An optimal mixture of xenon, argon, and krypton is enclosed in a Pyrex glass tube.  These gases are excited by an electrical current which then cause an energy field, or plasma, to emit from the glass tube onto the skin.  Next, critical to an effective instrument, is the complexity of the circuit that generates the waves, or frequency patterns, of the information.  The Lymphstar Pro has an optimal circuit design for this purpose.

The Lymphstar Pro is applied by placing the transmission head, or heads, on the skin.  Use of the instrument on the body is followed by a lymphatic drainage therapy technique.  Or it may be used apart from the massage as a therapy itself, complimenting other techniques of detoxification.
Foot bath therapy is a very effective therapy for detoxification. This technology produces both positive and negative charges through an array placed into a tub of water.  During 20 to 30 minute unattended sessions, clients soak their feet in the tub, and the computerized array emits frequencies that both balance the energy meridians and draw toxins from the body into the water.
The negatively and positively charged ions in the water attract the negatively and positively charged toxins in the body through the tissues of the feet.  Toxic ions are then excreted through the pores of the skin of the feet and expelled into the water instead of needing to be processed by the liver and excretory system.

We find that foot bath therapy is a very effective technique for detoxification especially when it follows the Lymphstar Pro lymphatic drainage therapy.

Emotional Release and Mind Makeover Techniques

As part of the triad of health, emotions play a very important roll in overall health.  Research shows that the majority of us run in an uptight fight or flight mode most of the time.  In this state, our nervous system is constantly stimulated which causes the vitality of our body to decrease and symptoms appear.

The Emotional Release Technique is a very simple way for patients to let go of their past emotions associated with past experiences.  The patient creates a list of situations in their past that carry negative emotions.  This list includes things they Did that they wish they didn’t do, Didn’t Do that they feel they should have done, and things that Were Done to them that they wish never happened.  We all have emotions from our past stored in our subconscious.  These emotions cause our nervous system to run abnormally.

The technique is to have the patient think about the emotion while they hold their breath as long as possible and go through a forgiveness process.  Holding of the breath helps to reboot the nervous system of the body.  The forgiveness process allows the patient to let go of the negative emotions they have held for so long.  After this process is complete, the patient has a Mind Makeover session.

The Mind Makeover technique utilizes a computer program to help the patient create a recording of positive affirmations.  The patient chooses various affirmations that resonate with what they are working on in their life at the time.  They also choose music they enjoy listening to.  The patient is then recorded saying the affirmations with feeling.  These affirmations are then laid down over their chosen music and captured on a CD they can listen to or transfer to their MP3 player or Ipod.  This concept goes hand in hand with the concept of “The Secret”, the most recent positive thought therory.

The patient has now forgiven and removed the negative emotions from their past and are programming new positive thought patterns for their future.  These two techniques help to balance the emotional side of the triangle of health.  If you or a family member could benefit from these techniques, give us a call.  801-298-4646

Spinal Correction and Rehabilitation

Spinal correction and overall body alignment is so important in the concept of true health.  The physical body and its treatment is one of the three sides of the wellness triangle.  As a chiropractor, I focus on the alignment of the body with all of its joints and articulations.  I feel the alignment of the spine starts with appropriate foot position which ultimately affects the sacrum which is the foundation of the spine.

untitled1.png untitled2.png untitled3.png

Once the feet are in a neutral position, the rest of the joints of the body can be analyzed for appropriate position and function.  If mal-position of any joint is detected, the chiropractic adjustment helps to bring alignment and proper function to that joint and ultimately to the nerve roots and the areas of the body (muscles, organs, etc.) that they feed.

Following the adjustment, physical therapy is applied to aid in the stabilization and strengthening process to accomplish a permanent change.  The therapies we use in our office are: inter-segmental traction, electric muscle stimulation, weighted treadmill, spinal core strengthening exercises, and home exercises.

untitled4.png untitled5.png untitled6.png

Our treatment for spinal correction is approximately 30 visits over a three month time frame.  This is a very intensive program and we have seen great results with patients with scoliosis, abnormal curvature of the spine, forward weight bearing of the neck and other spinal abnormalities which have followed this program.  This technique along with specific home exercises and regular maintenance adjusting is an excellent way to maintain spinal alignment.

Remember, in order to obtain complete wellness, you need to focus on the three sides of the Triangle of Health; Structure, Emotion, and Physiology.

Orthotics

Orthotics

Structural correction is very important when working with the Triangle of Health (Structure, Emotion, Physiology). A neutral position of the feet helps to align the hips and sacrum which is the foundation of the spine.  Spinal alignment is of utmost importance in overall health and nervous flow to the body organs.  When the feet are in a position of pronation (arch is fallen and the ankle is rolled inward), it usually causes one of the legs to appear longer and the hips will be uneven, causing a bend in the spine or scoliosis.  This allows the spine and joints of the spine to wear down prematurely.

untitled1.pnguntitled2.pnguntitled3.png

In addition to correcting spinal foundation problems, orthotics may be used to correct foot problems.  Pronation is a condition that often starts in very young patients and can progress as the patient gets older.  The correction of foot pronation is vital to overall health of the patient.   When the foot is pronated, most of the weight of the body is moved towards the inside of the foot.  While walking, most of the pressure of the body moves through the foot and towards the big toe.  The toe off phase of the walking cycle places a great deal of pressure on the toes, especially the big toe when pronation is present.  The increased pressure may lead to bunions and a movement of the big toe towards the lateral side of the foot.  Bunions are an enlargement of the second joint of the big toe.  This can be a very painful condition.

untitled4.pnguntitled5.pnguntitled6.png

Orthotics correct the pronated position of the feet by moving the feet to a neutral position.  In the neutral position, the arch is raised and the weight of the body is evenly distributed across the foot to the toes.  Taking the pressure off the big toe allows the body to reabsorb or minimize the bunion.

untitled7.pnguntitled9.png

Other conditions orthotics help correct are Plantar Fasciitis, Hammer Toes, and Neuromas.

Detoxification Therapy

One of the most important things we teach at the Family Wellness Center is the importance of detoxification.  Due to the many toxins we have in our environment, most of us have high levels of toxic matter in our bodies.  These toxins cause significant damage to our cells, which create tissue damage, which create organ damage.  As our tissues become more toxic, it overloads our lymphatic system and we become like a swamp.  I tell patients all the time that we need to drain the swamp!!!  The following information is what we use in the office to help “drain the swamp”.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy

An excellent method to detoxify the body is the Far Infrared Sauna.  Its dry, warming energy is highly compatible with the human body.  It heats the tissues several inches deep, enhancing metabolic processes.

Far Infrared sauna therapy is different than most “hot boxes”.  This type of sauna uses the frequency of Far Infrared which is one of the frequencies emitted from the sun.  As this energy enters the body, it causes the cells to vibrate at the same frequency as the far-infrared.  This vibration and the temperature increase of the body causes the cells to “sweat or detoxify”.

The patient places a mixture of filtered mud from the Great Salt Lake all over their body.  This mud causes the body to detoxify more effectively.  Once the mud is on the patient, they put on their own shorts and shirt or sweat suit and sit in the sauna.  The patient sits in the sauna for thirty minutes then comes out and bounces on a rebounder for 3 minutes to stimulate the lymphatic flow.  They then sit in the sauna for another thirty minutes.  The treatment last for a total of one hour.

Far-Infrared Sauna

Everyone today is exposed to heavy metals and toxic chemicals.  People with a slow metabolism have an even harder time detoxifying these dangerous particles.  An excellent method to detoxify the body is the Far-Infrared Sauna; it is a dry, warming energy that is highly compatible with the human body.  It heats the tissues several inches deep, enhancing metabolic processes.

Far-Infrared Sauna Therapy is different than most “hot boxes”.  This type of sauna uses a far-infrared frequency which is one of the frequencies emitted from the sun.  As this energy enters the body, it causes the cells to vibrate at the same frequency.  This vibration and the temperature increase cause the cells to “sweat or detoxify”.

The client has the option of placing a mixture of filtered mud from the Great Salt Lake on their skin.  This mud causes the body to detoxify even more effectively.  Once the mud is applied, the client puts on their own shorts and shirt to sit in the sauna.  The client will sit in the sauna for thirty minutes, exit the sauna and bounce on a re-bounder (mini-tramp) for three minutes to stimulate the lymphatic flow, followed by another thirty minutes in the sauna.  The treatment lasts for a total of one hour.

Saunas enhance circulation and oxygenate the tissues. Energy production increases, facilitating healing.  “Fever therapy”, or heating the cells of the body, helps infections to heal more quickly, increases metabolism thus enabling cells to more efficiently eliminate toxins, opens nasal passages allowing the sinuses to drain, and hastens eradication of infectious cells due to their poor toleration of heat.

Finally, the skin is a major eliminative organ and is largely inactive in most people. Many people do not sweat.  With continued sauna treatments, a client will usually begin to sweat more and the detoxification process is inhanced.

Adrenal Dysfunction

Are you feeling fatigued and run down all the time?  Are you a soccer Mom or Dad trying to make it to all of the games and responsibilities of life?  Do you feel tired or not rested in the mornings, even after eight hours of sleep?  Do you feel dizzy when you stand up?  If so, you may be suffering from adrenal burnout.   Research indicates that 90% of the population has adrenal fatigue which in many cases leads to low thyroid function.  This correlation between adrenal burnout and low thyroid function is the primary cause why so many of us feel tired and begin to gain weight.

In a chess game the pawns are like our adrenal glands.  They are on the front line and handle most of the first line of stress attack.  The thyroid is like the bishop or castle and is the secondary line of defense and stands ready in the background, not called upon for stressful situations unless the pawns are taken out of the game.  As our adrenals become fatigued and burn out, the thyroid begins to take over and tries to carry the load.  The thyroid usually enlarges slightly to try to create more thyroid hormone.  As the thyroid fatigues as well, the metabolism drops and the person usually feels even more fatigue and gains weight.

A typical office exam includes being checked for several things to determine if you have low functioning adrenal glands.  During your exam a pupil evaluation and a simple blood pressure test will be performed.  We will look in your eyes with a pen light to watch how fast your pupils contract and dilate.  Low adrenal function correlates with a slower than normal pupil dilation.  We will take your blood pressure sitting and standing.  Ninety percent of the client base demonstrates a ten point or more drop in blood pressure from sitting to standing.  Any drop of ten points or more, is considered low adrenal function.  Lab tests can be run to give another piece of information to the diagnosis.

The treatment is simple with the right lifestyle changes and targeted supplementation.  Eat less simple carbohydrates and refined sugar. Get eight hours of sleep per night.  Drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day, and let go of all of the emotional baggage you carry.  You will feel much more energy and better overall health.

Come into the office for a complementary body scan to see if you have adrenal fatigue. There are specific supplements that are designed to support the adrenals and thyroid. We will also determine if there is a layer of infection in these organs as well that may be causing them to work improperly. You will be amazed when you see how much better you can feel by addressing the causes of fatigue.

Treatment of Thyroid Dysfunction

Many people in today’s highly stressed, toxic environment have low functioning thyroids.  In fact, almost 90% of the population has a low-functioning thyroid. Unfortunately, the typical tests used in the medical community to detect thyroid mal-function do not detect any problems.  This is known as sub-clinical hypothyroidism – wherein people are always very tired and feel run down and don’t know why.

The symptoms for low thyroid function are:

1)  A run-down feeling all the time
2)  Unable to sleep through the night
3)  Enlargement of the thyroid gland noticeable with palpation (feeling with your hands)
4)  Greasy skin and acne
5)  Heart irregularity

Diagnosis – The easiest way to diagnose low thyroid function is to take the basal temperature under the arm pit in the morning before getting out of bed.  The basal temperature is the body’s base temperature at rest.  The thyroid is responsible for maintaining this temperature above 97.4 under the arm.  One of the functions of the thyroid is to maintain body temperature at normal levels at all times.

Basal temperature procedure – Place your digital thermometer next to your night stand before you go to bed.  When you wake up in the morning, place the thermometer under your arm.  When the thermometer sounds, read the temperature.  Any number less than 97.4 degrees Fahrenheit is considered low thyroid function. This is a very easy process used to discover if you have a low functioning thyroid.

Causes – Stress!!!!!!  Usually the person is very over-stressed with normal life responsibilities.  Soccer moms, dads at work, children at school all have significant stress.  The adrenal gland is the stress gland which begins to falter and causes the thyroid to take over the stress-management function. The thyroid begins to falter and moves the person into low thyroid function.

Treatment – The treatment is the same for low thyroid as it is for hyper-thyroid function.  When we treat this problem naturally, we use the same supplement for both conditions because the supplement brings the gland to a normal function whether high or low function.  We call this taking the gland to homeostasis or balance.  Herbal and homeopathic remedies have the ability to bring about homeostasis for an organ.

Finally, eat right by cutting down on simple carbohydrates, drink one half your body weight in ounces of water each day, get plenty of exercise and rest, breathe clean air and think good thoughts.  You will help your thyroid repair and you will feel a greater sense of health.

Thinking – the Sixth Essential of Life

The Sixth Law of Health – Thinking

To be or not to be, that is the question.  In my opinion, this famous quote means to think and be alive and how you play the game of life.  How do you show up every day and in every situation?  How you think determines your actions.  Most of us think and act from our past programming.  As we move through life, our experiences shape our present and future.

As we have these experiences, we record every emotion into our subconscious.  Every good and bad experience, along with the emotion of that experience, is recorded.  Each of these experiences is like an anchor that is sunk down into the sand of our remembrance.  As we approach a new situation that appears similar to an old experience, we turn around and pull on the anchor to remind us how we should act along with the old emotion.  We then turn to face the present situation and respond with the emotion from the past.  The response is often inappropriate for the present situation.

Wouldn’t it be nice to respond to our present situation clear of past emotions so we could respond to what is in front of us instead of what is behind us?  The way to do this is to let go of the past emotions associated with the past experience.  Past experience can be a tool in our tool belt of life that can be used effectively when used without emotional attachment.  When we are able to remove the emotion from the subconscious we can move through forgiveness.  Forgiveness can be difficult, yet in the long run, it is far easier to forgive than to live with resentment.  Through forgiveness, you can move away from the pains of the past and achieve real freedom.

We are able to let the emotion of our past go through forgiveness and through breath-work.    Once the negative emotion is released, new beliefs can be programmed through a positive affirmations program.  These techniques are very powerful and can be easily incorporated into the standard office visit.  So, to be or not to be, the answer is to be.

Breathing – The 5th Essential of Life

The Fifth Law of Health – Breathe

Commentary by Dr. Troy Giles:

Breathing has always been a good thing for me and my life.  I enjoy breathing and what it does for me.  That may seem silly, until you can’t breathe.  I found out what this is like when I was up to scout camp last summer.  We went to Camp Steiner, which is approximately 10,000 feet.  I got altitude sickness and woke up at 3 a.m. in a panic as I was not getting enough oxygen.  I had to hike down to the car and descend to a lower altitude.  Once I was about 1,000 feet lower in elevation, I felt much calmer and could get enough air again.  I talked to one of my neighbors, a medical doctor, and he told me that it was a good thing I came down as it would have gotten worse if I hadn’t.  I think the problem was that I had a 44 oz. Mountain Dew on the way up to the camp as I was very tired and used it to keep me awake.  The large amount of caffeine and carbonation diminished my capacity to carry oxygen.

Several concepts are important when considering breathing:

1.    Breathe good clean air.  This is difficult in our environment today.  Especially if you live along the Wasatch Front, or in any large city.  The air is usually contaminated with particles that are not too good to breathe.  If you can, purchase an air filter for your home that will help clean the air.  You can also purchase smaller portable filters for your car that will help while driving.  Freeway commuting is detrimental for us as most often we are breathing the exhaust of the cars in front of us.

2.    Practice deep breathing exercises each day.  Many of us don’t breathe deeply enough from our bellies.  We are used to shallow breathing.  The first breath we took as an infant was full of pain as the air seared our lungs.  We decided subconsciously at that time that breathing was not good and we should only breathe shallow.

3.    Don’t drink carbonation as it diminishes your capacity to carry oxygen in the blood.

Deep breathing and free movement of air in and out of our lungs is vital to optimal health.    Breathe and be healthy.
